The practice veterinary surgeons Caroline Blundell and Martha Cannon have a life-long love of cats and have spent a number of years specialising in the treatment and care of cats Caroline and Martha met when working together in the Feline Centre at Bristol Vet School and both vets have extra qualifications in veterinary medicine. They are regularly asked to write about or deliver talks on the subject of cats. In addition to the two vets, a team of friendly and knowledgeable nurses will be on site to help answer owners' more general queries and concerns and will hold special nursing clinics, where problems such as weight gain, parasite control etc. can be discussed.
Graduating from London in 1989, Caroline developed her keen interest in internal medicine through experience gained
in both mixed and small animal practice.
In 1997 Caroline was appointed Feline Fellow at Bristol, where she expanded her interest in clinical feline medicine,
focusing on laboratory diagnosis of infectious diseases.
Since then she has been working with cats in both referral and first opinion capacities. She gained the RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Medicine
in 2001 and joined forces with Martha Cannon in 2002 to form a Feline Referral Service for veterinary surgeons within Oxfordshire and the surrounding counties.
The opening of the Oxford Cat Clinic in 2006 is the start of a new adventure

Graduating from Cambridge in 1992, Martha was appointed to work in small animal practice in Canterbury where she was
instrumental in establishing the Radio-Iodine Treatment Centre for hyperthyroid cats. Martha gained the RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Medicine
in 1998, prior to taking up the Feline Advisory Bureau Residency in Feline Medicine at Bristol Veterinary School.
In 2004, after several further years of study and exams, Martha was awarded the Diploma in Small Animal Medicine (feline),
and is one of only 3 veterinary surgeons in the UK to hold this qualification. She is also a recognised Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Specialist in Feline Medicine.
She is regularly invited to contribute to CPD meetings and to veterinary and veterinary nursing journals.

Amanda graduated from London in 1986. She is a very experienced vet who has worked for many years at Abivale Veterinary Hospital in Abingdon as one of their senior veterinary surgeons. She now feels the need for new challenges and is looking forward to expanding her interest in feline medicine by joining the team here on a part time basis. We are delighted to have Amanda on board and we hope you will join us in giving her a warm welcome.

Liz has been a veterinary nurse for longer than she cares to admit. She has worked in many practices and has a wealth of experience. She has recently completed a degree in zoology but has been lured back into veterinary nursing with the promise of lots of cute cats! She loves spending time getting to know the cats and will do all she can to make them feel at ease in the surgery

Jo M. is our newest member of the team. We are delighted that she will be joining us as our second full time nurse in May.
She qualified in 2000 and has been working in small animal practice ever since. Most recently Jo has been working at Great Western referrals in Swindon where she decided to start working towards her medical nursing diploma. This is no mean feat and has required an immense amount of commitment and studying and we will do all we can to support Jo in her efforts to achieve exam success in 2008. She has her own cat, Saffi, who came into her life about 5 years ago and introduced her to the joy of cats. Perhaps she helped to convince Jo to join us at the Oxford Cat Clinic?!

Linda qualified as a veterinary nurse in 1996. She has worked in a range of small animal practice for many years, including a spell at a busy referral centre, so she brings a depth of knowledge and experience to the team.
For the last few years she has stepped out of veterinary nursing and into human healthcare, and has been working as an Operating Department Practitioner for the NHS, preparing patients for surgery and assisting the anaesthetist. She has now decided to return to her veterinary nursing roots and works with us on a part time basis, sharing her time between Oxfordshire and her home base in Newark. She loves cats and loves working with cats and finds the happy atmosphere here makes the long commute worthwhile!

Jo W. is a trainee nurse who has been working with us on a part time basis since we first opened. She started her training with a practice in Swindon before joining us to continue to expand her experience and knowledge. Although she is still training Jo already has a lot to offer and is keen to keep on learning. She has 2 cats, Poca and Dudley, who keep her entertained when she is not at work.

As well as our permanent members of the nursing team we also have several regular faces who help us out from time to time.
Ali Neary qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 1997 and worked in small animal practice until 2001, when she left full time veterinary nursing for a career in the NHS! She now works in a local NHS Trust on a full time basis as an HR Manager, but is very excited about being offered the opportunity to do some weekend work at such a specialised feline practice.
Ali currently owns one cat (Bertie!) but fears that this may change if the practice get any cute cats in that are looking for a good home!
