Job Description:

This is an exciting opportunity for a vet with a passion for cats to join our friendly team in the beautiful City of Oxford. We are an independent and successful first-opinion and referral practice with a great reputation amongst our fantastic and dedicated local client base and referring vets.

You would be joining a team of 4 experienced first-opinion vets, looking to grow our first-opinion service from our main hospital clinic and new larger premises. We have a varied and interesting case-load covering all aspects of feline medicine and surgery. You would be working alongside 2 referral vets, including feline specialist Martha Cannon and associate referral specialist surgeon Hannes Bergman, with three other vets with advanced qualifications in feline medicine. You would be assisted by our fabulous, cat-whispering team of 6 veterinary nurses, and have access to ultrasound, digital Xray, endoscopy, Idexx Lasercyte and Catalyst Biochemistry lab facilities, and digital dental radiography.

The role is a 3 or 4-day week, with a long weekend after a weekend duty. There are no out-of-hours emergencies - phones divert to a local hospital after 6.30pm on weekdays and 2pm/12pm on weekends. We provide our own in-patient care for hospitalised cases with an equally shared one-in-four night and weekend rota - whether p/t or f/t. Week-day night duties are back-up and rarely require a hospital visit, as primary care during the week is performed by our team of vet-nurses.

Ideally you will already be competent in medicine and surgery with experience in imaging, able to cope with a busy workload and some sole charge.

However, most of all we are looking for the right candidate who wishes to pursue and enjoy a career in feline practice, thrive in the wealth of experience around you, and understands our team values. Good emotional intelligence and a respect for all the team and their roles is essential alongside a commitment to do what is best for the animal and to care for the owner.

We are looking for some who:

  • Wants to enjoy life in a feline-only practice and grow their skills

  • Knows their strengths and wants to play to them

  • Wants to provide the best care for every cat, every client, every day.

  • Has genuine team-spirit

  • Has excellent communication skills with both clients and colleagues, in and outside the consult room

  • Enjoys providing a high level of veterinary clinical care and in-patient support

  • Is experienced with imaging and surgery, and positively enjoys feline dentals!

  • Has a passion for cat welfare and a good understanding of cat-friendly practice

  • Recognises the importance of providing an excellent client experience

  • Provides good ideas to help the team forward and keep the experience enjoyable and fun

We are offering the opportunity to

  • Enjoy 20 minutes consultations

  • Have "on the day" appointments to reduce the risk of "extras"

  • Take responsibility for your own cases

  • Work alongside feline specialists and referral cases

  • Work with an orthopedic and soft-tissue specialist

  • Work with a fantastic feline-specialised nursing team

  • Enjoy working with lovely, caring and grateful clients

  • Work with a management team who work alongside you

Interested applicants are encouraged to submit a resume and cover letter to our Practice manager Melanie Weatherall. Please send applications to our e-management e-mail headed “Veterinary vacancy”
